RE: Los Angeles to Twin Falls, Id

My only comment would be to fill up in Bishop at either the Von's or the Piute Palace rather than Tonopah. We took that route to Jerome last May and it was an easy drive, very scenic, and the road was good. Weather in May was perfect for this trip. I think we stayed the night in Ely before heading to Idaho. Look for the base jumpers when you cross the bridge heading into Jerome-Idaho Falls. Quite a sight.

RE: $6500 tax credit for current homeowners to buy new RV?

The government website is probably your best source of information and what you do with the information open to interpretation is up to you. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=206291,00.html

RE: Update on Rincon Parkway

I drove out there this afternoon and can report that they have repaved the parkway section and re-marked the individual parking spot. I can't bring myself to call them campsites. As far as I can tell there are no improvements, per se. There are 127 parking spots. I don't know if the spots are the same size as they were before.

RE: Kirk Creek Campground in March

30 to 40 degrees, windy, foggy, rain, hail. Darn Sunset Magazine for listing Kirk Creek. It used to be a little known gem on the Big Sur coast where you could just drive in and hope to find a decent spot.

RE: Best place for solar panels?

I notice that you are in Phoeniz. RV Solar Electric is located in Scottsdale and are knowledgable and fair people. They were honest enough to tell me that they could not match a recent deal on a panel..most of the time they can. I have also dealt with AM Solar, located near Eugene, Oregon. Same thing, very easy to deal with and were quick to replace rather than repair my HPV22b controller. Not all panels are created equal. In addition to the wattage, consider their maximum amperage also. You want them to put the maximum juice to your batteries for the least price.

RE: Broken Radio Antenna - Where To Find Replacement?

It is a standard rv radio antenna. I found mine at a local auto stereo specialty shop. I could not find it at parts houses or Pep Boys. Mine cost about $25.

RE: Camp Grounds around Los Angeles

It would be helpful if you could say how long you expect to be gone and how far you are willing to drive to park your rig. Also, whether or not you are a member of the Elks club.

RE: Camping World Spartenburg

Mis diagnosis of problems on RV's is not limited to Camping World. While I have also had a problem with a CW service, I have also had them make an adjustment after the fact in the form of a credit. This was while they were owned by the Affinity Group. I expect that a legitimate concern brought to a manager's attention will get some response.

RE: Getting from 101 to PCH

I would head north on 101 to Camarillo and cut over to Pt Mugu at Lewis Rd offramp. Then back track south to Leo Carillo.
For JohnG3, Leo Carillo is located between Malibu and Pt Mugu, not north of Santa Barbara.

RE: Condensation in double pane window on driver's side

Ironic that just this afternoon I had a glass company give me a quote to replace the stationary section of the drivers side window. His quote, with me doing the removal and installation, was only a $100 less than what Fleetwood would charge to drop ship both halves of a new window set. I would check your manufacturer before deciding on a local company. I may still go that way but options are great things to have.

RE: Workhorse recall - brakes

Bsinmich, if you want to join a class action suit, why not start it yourself rather than waiting for someone else to start it. I am sure there are a number of people who are also waiting for someone else to start it and would be willing to join you.

RE: Oregon State parks price increase

There are higher fishing license fees for non residents, I see nothing wrong with any state having a two tier rate schedule for State Parks also. Oregon parks are truly a bargain and should be adequately funded.

RE: My Completed Solar Installation Thread!

I have two of the Kyocera 135's also but I ran them to an HPT22b charge controller. I found that the temperature sensor with the solar panels duplicated the temp sensor I installed with my Inverter /charger. I took the one off the inverter. With the 7.6 array amps, I can get well over 8 amps charge rate through the controller with the boost. I got the solar equipment this year due to the tax credits available for a second home.

RE: what to see on Montana visit?

I am surprised no one mentioned Teddy Roosevelt National Park. If you are using Hiway 2, you will be close to the northern section of the park..a true jewel and not crowded at all. We were there for their anniversary and the rangers brought cake for all the visitors and did not run out.

RE: Dream trip

How about a variation on the same theme. After you have done your dream trip, what is your next dream trip; and, do you repeat your dream trip. My answer is yes you repeat as long as the dream persists.

RE: Philly to Grand Canyon & Yellowstone in Aug. 2010

I agree that Little Big Horn is better done as a day trip. Frankly, I would spend the time in Cody for a full day and then stop in Buffalo. It is a long drive from YNP to Buffalo. I preferred Sheridan to Little Big Horn but you could do both in one long day.

RE: A Place to catch a couple hours of sleep

There are a couple of spots you could park for the night in Ventura. Nothing official of course but some folks park in the Affinity Group's headquarters. Take the Seaward offramp, turn right on Seaward, and right again on Vista Del Mar. Also near there, take the San Jon Rd offramp and turn right on Vista Del Mar and right again below the hill. This is a frontage road which borders 101 and separated by a small wetlands area. There have been folks who dry camped in the Von's parking lot at the corner of Seaward and Harbor Blvd. but I would not suggest this one..too much traffic.

RE: Prices Rising For Calif. Parks? No Matter To Me!

Steve, as someone who travels with someone who needs an oxygen concentrator and prefers State and National parks and forests, the electrical usage is a big deal..what with generator hours limiting the charging capability. I added solar panels this year just to cover the concentrator. Solar is becoming less expensive all the time and since self contained rv's qualify as a second home, tax credits are available to ease the financial pain. BTW, do you do McGrath SP also?

RE: Washington and California State Parks.

As mentioned, California State Parks fees for camping and day use have already increased. Here is a link for the revised camp fees.Calif Park Fees
I appreciate your comments about the information provided by the various state parks depts and tourism bureaus. BC, Alberta, and the YT also have great information for free..although once on their lists they don't really have to send the information every year.:D
